Canada Post is a “Worthwhile” Investment
It’s time to kick off 2015 on the right foot by sharing some wonderful Canada Post worship!
Jeannette Timmerman, a Community Correspondent for Canstar Community News, wrote a recent article on her local post office:
“Our local Canada Post outlet is well-used. At any time of the year it isn’t unusual to find a lineup of customers. The outlet is located in a back corner of the 7-Eleven store in a small strip mall on Killarney Avenue at Pembina Highway in Fort Richmond.” Timmerman explains that while the postal outlet is a walk-able distance from her home, she usually incorporates mail errands into her full round of driving errands.
Fort Richmond’s Canada Post outlet offers a number of resources to help fulfill Jeannette’s direct mailing needs. Supplies include shipping boxes of various sizes—that is, if you don’t already have a hoard of boxes at home to pull from. Timmerman acknowledges these shipping boxes as sturdy and easy to assemble.
A wide variety of envelopes, including plain, padded, postage paid, flat-rate Xpresspost™, and Priority™ envelopes, are all available for purchase. Packing tape is also sold both at retail price and as a discounted 20 percent-off four-pack when buying online. Timmerman describes an instance where one of her parcels required some last-minute packing tape. She was ready to take the parcel back home when the Canada Post clerk grabbed a roll and taped up the problem for free.
“We have 17 immediate family members in five provinces and one U.S. state. Despite phone calls, emails, and texting, we still seem to use the post office a lot. The clerks are always very helpful.”
Additionally, individual domestic stamps are sold for $1.00 each, and also in packets/coils of 100 for $85.00 plus tax. Jeanette shares, “we buy ours by the coil,” seeing as permanent value
allows all stamps to be used as is, even if postage rates increase. Stamps for mail to U.S. addresses are sold singly at $1.20 each, while international stamps are also sold singly at $2.50. These U.S. and international stamps also come in packets.
Timmerman concludes, “When you get a text, phone call, or email from recipients of the parcels, cards and letters, you know your investment in Canada Post has been worthwhile.”
