Canada Post’s Community Mailboxes Suspended – Election Promises for Direct Mail Delivery Fulfilled

Troi Mailing Services congratulates Justin Trudeau and the Liberal Party of Canada on their new majority government!

During the final stretch of the federal election, our Toronto mailing house experienced its busiest week ever. Election-related direct mailers took over our lettershop, and our team eagerly embraced the race. Troi Mailing appreciates the role of direct mail marketing and its importance towards “real change.”

The fulfillment of election promises also comes with real change, and our new Prime Minister-designate isn’t wasting any time. One day after winning the federal election, Trudeau announced the withdrawal of Canadian fighter jets from Iraq and Syria. He is certainly beginning his term with impactful implementations.

Earlier this week, another national statement hit the media. Canada Post will be suspending its community mailbox program.

While this announcement came from Canada Post directly, one can imagine that such a sudden shift is linked to the Liberal Party’s election promise. When direct mail delivery became a national concern, Justin Trudeau pledged to reinstate home delivery. It appears that the direct mail fulfillment industry in Canada has become a most urgent topic for Team Trudeau.

To learn how your direct mail marketing projects will change–or stay the same–in 2016, please call our Toronto direct mail specialists at (416) 757-5598 or 1-866-486-0423, and read Canada Post’s news release below:

“OTTAWA (Ont.) – Canada Post is temporarily suspending future deployment of the program to convert door-to-door mail delivery to community mailboxes. We will work collaboratively with the Government of Canada to determine the best path forward given the ongoing challenges faced by the Canadian postal system.

Efforts are now underway to place the comprehensive program on hold in an orderly fashion. This involves roughly 460,000 addresses across the country which are currently in the process to be converted to community mailboxes.

As a result, all conversions planned for November and December 2015 and those announced for 2016 will be placed on hold. Customers impacted by this decision will receive a letter within the next few weeks advising them of the status of their mail delivery service.

In neighbourhoods where the 10-month internal and community conversion process is complete, customers will collect mail and parcels at their community mailbox. This includes customers set to begin receiving their mail and parcels in their boxes in October. We remain focused on maintaining reliable postal service to all Canadians without disruption.”
