Canada Post delivers direct mail under a variety of postal streams, which include:

  • Neighbourhood Mail (formerly known as Unaddressed Admail)
  • Personalized Mail (formerly known as Addressed Admail)
  • Postal Code Targeting
  • Lettermail
  • Business Reply Mail
  • Pubmail (Publications Mail)
  • Letter-post (USA and International)
  • Parcel services.

Each postal stream uses a size/weight pricing structure. As a Canada Post Smartmail Marketing Expert Partner, Troi Mailing Services can pre-print or inkjet a Machineable postal indicia onto each direct mailer. Standard “Machineable” Lettermail with an indicia may then travel at 82 cents per piece, which saves you time, labour and money (versus affixing $1.00 single stamps or meter marks).

Here are a few key takeaways that help differentiate Lettermail from other direct mail services:

  • Lettermail generally refers to informational mail without a sales oriented call-to-action, as opposed to promotional Personalized Mail
  • While Personalized Mail must meet commercial content requirements, Lettermail may be of virtually any nature (informational or promotional)
  • Lettermail is a valuable postal service for time-sensitive direct mail marketing campaigns that do not reach the 500 minimum pieces required for bulk Personalized Mail
  • Lettermail travels as Canada Post’s fastest service, upheld by the “First Class” postage rates below
  • Lettermail postage includes the return-to-sender feature for undeliverable mail pieces if there is a valid return address on the outward face
  • Acceptable Lettermail items include letters, postcards, folded cards, invoices, magnets, reports, photographs and a wide array of products
  • Other Lettermail items that may be classified as Non-Standard, Oversize, or unacceptable include foods, liquids, perishable goods, powders, seeds, etc.
  • Maximum dimensions for Standard Lettermail are 6.1″ x 9.6″ x 0.2″ (thickness) before classified as Oversize

Standard Lettermail Delivery Times:
